Affordable Concrete & Grading Company

Thomas Eugene Grothaus began honing his talents for excavation, carpentry, masonry, and concrete construction building houses from the ground up with his brother in Texas. He started pouring concrete professionally over 35 years ago, but brought Affordable Concrete to Troy, IL in 1999 where he earned a trusted reputation in the community for quality craftsmanship, integrity, and respect. The company was incorporated in 2018, renamed as Affordable Concrete & Grading Company Inc, and relocated to Lebanon, IL. 

In the spring of 2021, the world lost a wonderful man; Tom Grothaus passed away after a short and intense battle with cancer. Throughout these devastating circumstances, his family and friends, while grieving themselves, rallied to continue his legacy by sheer will and emotional determination. As the owner and operator, he wore many hats and worked through at least one pair of boots each year, leaving an incredibly challenging void to be filled. We so greatly appreciate the support and understanding we have received from our past and current customers, for we know our company would just be trucks and tools without them; a genuine and hearty thank you. 

Today, Tom’s pair of size-13 shoes are filled by a small team; his daughter, Nicole (Owner); son-in-law, Dillon (Project Manager), and our finishers Shawn and Ray. Tom is dearly missed every day, and we wear his name on the back of our hats so we keep touch with him every morning as we get to work. He made an incredible reputation for himself, and we have been gratefully following in his footsteps and continuing to make new paths in his honor. The approachable demeanor, prompt customer service, and personal attention Tom was known for in the office is being carried on by Dillon, while the hand-crafted concrete products the community has come to know with the name Affordable Concrete & Grading are being continued in the field by Shawn & Ray and the rest of our hard-working crew.
